Search "car impound 30 day hold" and you'll find networks that treat it as a universal rule, every towed car locked up for a month no matter what happened. That's not how it works in Richmond. The 30-day figure is real, but it applies to one specific category: under the city's own towing contract, a vehicle can be held 30 days when it's impounded for a DUI arrest or an equipment violation, one of several distinct trigger categories the city defines alongside abandoned vehicles, accident tows, stolen vehicles, and cars with three or more unpaid tickets. If your car was towed for something else, a parking violation, a private-property trespass tow, an abandoned-vehicle call, that 30-day figure doesn't apply to you, and you're not locked out for a month by default.
